Is there some sort of unspoken dress code for aging female hippies? Like they have to wear birkenstocks with socks, long skirts, and have frizzy gray hair? I understand the clothing choices, but I don't understand the hair anomaly!

I'm not sure why you consider my question to be 'not nice.' It's just an observation... I don't style their hair! I'm sure people make fun of my doddy clothes but I could care less.

Lady Zania, I never realized there were different categories of hippies. I guess I'm thinking of 60's hippies. I live near Boulder so see a lot of these. Also they tend to frequent Vitamin Cottage. I'm not making this up, people!

You understand the clothing choices, but not frizzy hair?! Anyways, here's the breakdown:
no expensive hair products + following the 'hippie hippocratic oath' that one should not be more preoccupied with outward appearance than hugging trees + humidity = frizzies

Well, I don't believe I have noticed many aging female hippies with frizzy grey hair! I am an aging female hippie, and my hair is no more than 50% grey, stick straight, and not the least bit frizzy. Also, I mostly wear jeans and tee-shirts. So, I would say that hippies do not have a standard uniform look, or way of dressing. Also, you have your 60's hippies, your 70's hippies, and your 80's hippies. So, I guess there are also differences in the way that hippies from different decades look. I am a 70's hippie! I guess the hippies you are speaking of, must be 60's hippies. I guess the thing that makes us all hippies, is our common ideaologies!

Well, when people get older and their hair starts to gray, it gets a little frizzy looking because gray hair is more wiry than non gray hair.

They may not like using a lot of product on their hair, that's my guess.
