Unless you have a really good quality website with plenty of incoming links, it may take months before you will be indexed by the search engines.
First try this free service, it checks your meta tags, keyword density and optimisation, just type in your URL:
http://www.submitexpress.com/analyzer/
Next make any changes necessary and use their free meta tag generator:

That's just a start. You will need to have a site that is well constructed and then try and get some links from other relevant indexed sites.

And you won't. There is a great deal more to showing up in the search engines that submitting your site to a search engine. First of all it could take from 2 weeks to never before a search engine spider will come to your site and index your pages. When the spider comes, your pages have to be spider friendly so that our crawling friend can skip through them, read the pages, and analyze them for relevance and decide where it is going to rank them in the search engine index (library of web pages). You've got to be optimized, you've got to have relevant quality link ins, your titles have to be well done, your content has to be well done. The factors are off the chart. Submitting is actually something you shouldn't do until you have gone most of the way through making the site is READY to be viewed by the search engines. Below is the address to a great blog that has quite a few optimization articles. You should join the RSS feed so you can keep up with all that's new and coming on the horizon.
Good Luck
