I will pay more if it would save the life of one soldier.

Okay, I don't really understand your question, and here is why. The troops are clearly in Iraq now, and the gas prices are clearly high now! So how can you logically assume that keeping the troops in Iraq will lower gas prices, or that bringing them home would make gas prices go up? *sm*

I think bringing home troops may well lower per gallon gas prices in the US. It does seem, however, such prices may be paying for this war---which may get bought "on credit--with interest".

It's an interesting relationship you propose between gas prices and war
It may be more accurate in the US I am not sure
However in Canada the tax on gas beats your total tax (higher) but not by a lot
A barrel of unrefined crude oil at 70 dollars US - works out to about 1.85 Did you know that a barrel = 42 US gallons ? Check it out "US Barrel oil "
Ok according to Petro Can's web site they add 16 % of the base price as the refineing cost and another 2% on that for the profit of the oil company's (2% has equaled a couple of billion keep that in mind)
Now with that all added up we are up to 1.96 - so lets round up to 2 dollars also keeping in mind that when oil is refined into gas you get by- products like diesal and Kerosine
Also the cost of a barrel isn't at 70 dollars US yet -
Nonetheless I have gotten us up to 2 bucks a barrel
What are you paying ?
The rest isn't the store front - It is tax
Tax makes up the majority of cost at the pump - when you take away the cost of the crude itself - which was less than 2 bucks Tax makes up multiple billions in revenue
The oil company is soaking you and I yes but they have to report profits -
Tell me when is the last time any government told you the total revenue it got from gas tax ? Never has this happened in my country and I am willing to bet it has never happened in yours
Now back to the war -
We are spending a fraction of what you are on fighting the Taliban in Afganistan -
Yet more or less our gas prices are about equal - Hmmmm ?
In Canada it is about 44 cents US for a litre - that works out to about 50 cents Cdn
\d then you get a`ll the wa\y up to 60 cents - with the rest of it
cost here 1.05 per litre the rest ? Tax

I dont mean to sound cold-hearted, but lower gas prices would benefit the whole nation, paying over 3 dollars is rediclous, however, it has sped up the process of turning the nation "green", which is beneficial to the whole world. Bringing our troops home would be excellent, but not as many people would benefit from that as from lowering our gas prices.

Definitely bring our troops home (which includes my 19 year old nephew). I'd rather have him home safe.

The troops signed up for this kind of thing
