I just finished my freshman year of college as a Theatre major. I have been dancing since I was 3. I have taken Ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, pretty name any dance form and I've at least had 1 year experience.
I would really like to major at a college in dance. But am I too old to do that?
I was also part of a pre-professional/professional dance company for 4 years.

You can certainly switch. You would need to be at least at the intermediate level in ballet and modern for most college programs that require auditions, but there are also BA programs that don't require auditions. Also, college dance programs are used to taking some students who are older because many dancers defer going to college in order to try to find work as a dancer immediately after high school.

I'd be curious to know why you'd now "really like to major at a college in dance," when you obviously really wanted to major in theatre just a year ago. I hope you know that the culture of a college dance department is not much different from theatre departments: lots of competition for castings, lots of departmental "politics" and major decisions based on subjective factors, favoritism, etc. But if you feel that you're not getting enough dancing, then you should follow your heart and look into transferring.

i do major in dance in college and it helped me graduate to be honest. i am a 25 yr old mother and u know what they trust me more and count on me more then the 18 year old that came to class with hangovers. u sound like u have the passion so do it. once you dance you can never stop right? o btw most colleges are modern or ballet dance oriented and you do have to audition for most of them, but the audtions arnt bad alot of times its a ballet barre, and then a quick modern and quick jazz and then anything you want to show. we had to have an interview and references from previos instructors. good luck

You should ask your undergarduate adviser or one of the administrators if you can change your major, and how to go about it. I don't think you're too old, especially provided that you're already a highly qualified dancer.

Sweetheart, you don't need anyone's acceptance. If this is something you want to do then by all means go for it and make your own path.
Good Luck
