We want to make favors for a first communion made with marshmallow, but I need to buy slabs of white marshmallow candy. Any ideas?

splitbeancoffee.com sells bags of homemade marshmallow bricks or squares online.

Ask at your local candy makers if they'll custom make a few pans or bags for you or see if they already sell them.

It's worth asking, especially in a mom and pop or family run, small confectioners or candy shop.

Also, homemade marshmallows are actually pretty easy to do if you have the time, money and patience, as are meringues or divinity, which could substitute for the marshmallow.

Try at BHG.com or allrecipes.com to get some recipes.

Try googling :

Three:

First, use Google or Dogpile and go hunting. See what you can find.

Second, use www.cooks.com or www.allrecipes.com and get a recipe to make your own marshmallow. I've done it. It's not quite like the commercial stuff, of course -- I don't have those kinds of chemicals in my kitchen -- but it's really tasty.

Third: could you by any chance substitute thinnish layers of white cake (bake it in a cookie sheet with sides, a.k.a. a jelly roll pan) for the marshmallow stuff, if you can't find any? Could you make the same crafts with it? You'll need to adjust the baking time and possibly temperature (lower it by 25 degrees Fahrenheit or so and then shorten the baking time, too) and keep a close eye on it so it doesn't turn too brown. Cut off any inconveniently-colored or -shaped edges.

I would suggest buying that instant freeze chocolate. Just dip your candy canes and marshmallows in there then stick them in the freezer for a while and they'll be ready in no time.
