Can you use a normal digital thermometer?

I use a regular digital thermometer. Some people say you have to use the basal thermometer, but a digital one works fine and is half the price.
You take your temperature first thing in the morning before you even get out of bed. You start charting your temperature on the first day of your period. It will stay about the same until you ovulate, then it goes up about .5 to 1 degree, this means you have ovulated. You keep taking your temp everyday, and when it goes back down your period should start soon. If it doesn't go back down within 18 days, and your period hasn't started, then you are probably pregnant. Good luck!!

mine is 97.0 - 97.2 before I ovulate, and goes up to 97.8 - 98.0 after.

Here's a chart you can download and print:

The basal thermometer and its accompanying chart is a means of predicting ovulation. The thermometer is graduated in I believe tenths of degrees for a more exact reading.

You take your temp daily and track it on the chart. It is based on the fact that your temp spikes when you ovulate. When the chart spikes that is the best time for you to conceive.

You can get one at any drug store.

Good Luck.

A basal body thermometer is just a very sensitive thermometer. It is sensitive to .1degrees F instead of .2 like a fever thermometer. You can buy them about anywhere--I got mine at walmart for $7. They are with the regular thermometers in the pharmacy section or sometimes in the family planning section (ie. condoms).
Basically you take your temp at the same time each morning before getting out of bed. Go here for info and free online charting-- www.fertilityfriend.com

One last tip--get one that has a recall or memory feature so you can recall your last temp. It's sometimes hard to remember your temp that early in the morning or I've even been known to fall back to sleep with the thermometer in my mouth.

A basal thermometer is an ultra sensitive thermometer that tracks your body's minutest temperature shift. A basal body temperature thermometer is often used by women for their basal body temperature chart, in order to predict their fertile period, or ovulation. There are various kinds of BBT thermometers available but a digital basal thermometer is your best bet. They measure to 0.1 degrees F. You can get one at the local drug store, or Target-type store.

There is a great book that tells you how to chart your cycle using a basal thermometer.

almost every chain store carries them. you chart your temp every morning, and when it goes up a little, it means you ovulated or are ovulating. good luck!
