today we saw like 20 minutes of Glory but we wont see the rest, sadly

It was to show that blacks could fight too. Abraham Lincoln said that the enlistment of blacks helped to turn the tide of war for the Union.

1.) Blacks fighting to end slavery
2.) Blacks were allowed to fight--overcoming predjudices--- (even though some fought durring the revolution, many believed they were incapable or not inteligent enough)
3.) Harsh consequences, if captured they would be killed or returned to slavery

That's all I can think of at the moment but there is probably more reasons

The difficult struggle of getting equipment, and of getting permission for them to train and fight. Otherwise black troops would just be used for menial labor. It wasn't that different in WW I and WW II.
