We might actually respect out government for being of good moral character for a change

Just look at China and how well things turned out for them when they regulated childbirth and mandated how women should use their bodies.

The fact of the matter is, if abortion was illegal, it would not stop those that wanted one from getting one. All it would do is create a black market operation that would further needlessly endanger the lives of women.

We already have 9 MILLION children in this country without health care and some have the audacity to claim that they care for life? So a fetus is more important and has more rights than a living child? It's the height of hypocrisy.

Provide health care for all children period. Develop a process for ensuring speedy and effective adaption for ALL US children and maybe, then maybe those that are so called "Pro-Life" will have the moral impetus to even suggest making abortions illegal.

Until then, it shouldn't even be open for debate.

It has no effect on government one way or the other. IT is not a government issue.

It is a womens issue and only the pregnant woman can make any decision concerning it.

Now, if the government could sudden become whole, and develop a uterus and become pregnant, then the issue would have an effect...it is ridiculous.

"The government" doesn't give a crapola. They only pander to the right-wing fundy religious nuts in our country who have held our government hostage for several years.

But, it is all coming to an end for them...soon they will be as irrelevant as the "Moral Majority" (which was neither moral or a majority), Jerry Falwell and the rest of the kooks.

Well quite a bit. Starters they'll have to enforce the over 100 Billion dollars in unpaid child support they have been laxed on.

States will have to cough up more money for Foster care, and that will lead to raising taxes.

Single mothers more than likely will not be able to pay the hospital bill to give birth, therefore the taxpayer will once again have to kick in.

Unfortunately child abuse would sky rocket, and many young woman will go to their deaths due to being impregnated by a "man!"

All the above are just for starters, unless some do gooder from the right offers to foot all the bill!!

more people would die, because it's the same as drugs, if people want to do it, they are going to whether it's legal or not...
it wouldn't effect government at all, i hope you realize that politicians don't give a crap about abortion, it's just an issue that is brought up every time there is an election, republicans pander to those who want abortion illegal for votes, and the democrats pander to those who are pro-choice, election ends, someone wins, we don't hear about anything to do with abortion until the next election...

I think we would have women going to back alley chop shops for medical help. The black market abortion doctors would make a killing . no pun intended. I'm not for abortion ,but if a service is wanted it can be found , just like drug use , this would be all about the money for a illegal service.

personally, i think abortion is wrong.
if the government wants to make it illegial, they would have to take several drastic steps, including stressing to couples the importance of either abstinence or birth control, and removing children from poor homes and putting them into good families.
there are a lot of good people trying to adopt kids, but the system is so hard to get through, there are kids in agencies for years, and they never get placed in a good family.
the gov. would really have to work harder to ensure the best life for each of its citizens

History tells us the back ally abortion caused a lot of deaths to both the mother and baby. To go back to that is even more cruel.

I'm not sure why it would necessarily effect government, other than they would not need to allocate funds for women on welfare who want to kill their children, rather than get fixed, which would be more cost effective.

In response to another's comment: I'm not sure what is NOT cruel about killing another human being.

It would mean that Americans have, once again, given one of their freedoms to the government
