Istanbul, once known as Constantinople. Mohammed III? )Not sure about the III) conquered the city in 1453? (I think) and renamed it Istanbul because it was more Islamic and it just wouldn't do to have a Muslim city with a Roman name (it was named by the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great before the split of the Empire. After the split, the Eastern, or Byzantine, Emperor patronized the Eastern/Greek Orthodox Church, while the Roman Emperor patronized the Catholic Church, which caused a bitter feud resulting in the excommunication of the Eastern Patriarch (or at least contributed to it.) The Byzantine Emperors also changed the official language to Greek. (All the extra info just for kicks.) By the way, it was never known as Byzantium, see another answer. Also, as mentioned before, there are other cities on two continents.

They already answered for the turkish city located on two continents, but what I can tell you is that Istanbul is not the only city in the world located on two continents. The city Port Said in Egypt (located on the Mediterranean Sea and Suez Canal) is divided by the Suez Canal in two parts: one in Africa and the other one in Asia.
