I have two goldfish (1 comet, 1 common) in a tank (10 gallon). They recently started fighting and now the comet who is 1 year male, about 2inches has a rip in his tail fin. I don't know if it's the common, 6 years 3.5inches, who ripped it or if it was the plants. I want to seperate them but I don't have a spare tank.
I have a male betta in a 6 gallon right now. My question is, will it be okay to put the male goldfish into the betta fish tank for like acouple of hours, and move the betta to a smaller tank??? So can I put a goldfish in betta water??? Will that be safe???

thanks.

You should not Mix a Betta with goldfish.

Goldfish poop too much for Bettas to be healthy.

Your fish are getting aggressive with each other due to the tank size. They are very small for their age and have probably been stunted. They should grow up to 5" the fist year of life. The common grow up to a foot long with proper aquarium size (50 + gallons for proper swimming amount). The comet also grows quite large and needs adequate swimming room. They should be in a 50 gallon tank together and you'll see the aggression go down and their health will also benefit.
You can put the fish in to the betta tank once you turn off the heater. You do have your betta tank heated, right? Betta are tropical and goldfish are coldwater. Make sure you acclimate your goldfish to the temperature in the other aquarium (use a baggie like they do in the fish stores) and then release.

Your larger goldfish was probably 'attacking' your smaller one ... and your fish are in a tank that is 'way too large' for them at their present size. It's probably better if you could put your male beta in a 'large glass' or vase and then 'clean' the beta's tank and put the smaller of the goldfish into that. You may have to keep them in separate tanks for the rest of their lives, but if you can you should try getting a 'net' that they can't get through, and hanging that across the middle of your larger tank and see if that doesn't keep them both 'safe an healthy' ...

find a net and seperate the tank. put the goldfish on one side and the betta on the other. Oh yeah! make sure you feed both sides, not just one side, then the other fish would die! xD

It would be safe to move him there assuming you acclimate him to the tank first, just like when you bring a new fish home.
