I really love botanical drawings. I've drawn two of them so far, with coloured pencil. But aside from that, what is used on them. Oil paints? Watercolour? Coloured ink? And what type of paper? How big is the paper usually, with botanical drawings?
Thank you very much :)

If you are doing drawings for a publisher, the publisher should specify which medium they want you to use. If you are doing work for a gallery or just for your own pleasure, try them all. I have done a variety of botanicals for a long time, so my choice varies according to the result I want. Make me one of your contacts and email me what you choose, I'd love to know.

Most artists I have met who do botanical drawings use either pen and ink or water colour (sometimes the watercolour pencils). They use a fine grain, medium to thick linen paper but I think any old heavier bond sketch paper works just as well. And they use any size of paper from really small to tabloid size. I'm not an artist but have listened to conversations among them and this is what I overheard.

Watercolor is a very popular choice and so are pen and ink.
