The dictionary will give you all kinds of statements or definitions for the word. But to really understand it, you have to think about it. Prejudice comes from the word judging. "Pre" is a prefix or a part of a word that means "before." For example: the Preamble to the Constitution is a statement BEFORE the actual Constitution itself. So, if you're prejudiced, you're prejudging without knowing the facts. You can be prejudiced about anything: people, places, things. You can be prejudiced about a whole race of people, ethnic or religious groups, or countries. You can be prejudiced against food. For example you can say, "I hate broccoli," without even tasting it. Prejudice is a negative feeling, you think negatively about whatever you feel prejudice for. An intelligent person learns the facts before making judgments. Hope this helps you to understand.

A preformed opinion, usually of a person, based on superlative information or misconceptions, rather than an opinion based on the merits of the subject being judged.
I give the above definition to encompass more than the common racial prejudice. Racial prejudice, although most common, is only one form of prejudice. Prejudice can be a healthy form of self-preservation. If you see several scruffy guys parked in a van in a dark alley, you probably won't take your children for a walk there. They could simply be movers, but healthy prejudice tells you not to take the chance.
