It is just a thermal insulator. It doesn't allow the transfer of heat to occur very easily. Heat always wants to flow from hot to cold due to the second law of thermodynamics, and the amount that will flow is a function of the temperature difference of the two mediums, among other things. So if you have a hot liquid and cold weather, it will prevent the thermal energy from being transferred from the liquid to the air. If you have a cold liquid and hot weather, vice versa.

All a thermos does is isolate the substance inside it to maintain whatever temperature it is already.

it doesent heat thigs up or cool things down it just insulates them like a jacket or a cooler ,it just doesent let the heat or cold get out/in
