The Raiders can't do any worse. Seriously, they could take the entire Black Hole and put them in uniform, and they would probably pull off a better record. They have nothing to lose (except next year's first pick...) so why not start JaMarcus? Get him some experience- he can't screw up the games any worse than the rest of the team, right? Play him and see what he's got- what's the worst that could happen? They become the worst team in the NFL... oh wait.... they're used to that....

Considering the fact that 3-13 would be a better season, the only snag to my suggestion that the Raiders will have a better season with Russell is if they leave him on the bench his entire rookie season.

The Raiders might have a slightly better season but with a starting rookie at QB you can't expect much more than a 5 win season

better season? DEfinitely will, no other way but up, Raiders will have a FRanchise QB in the next decade..

putting him as a starter in the early season would be a bad decision, he still need to learn more about the NFL.. Defense in NFL is totally different from college, they are ruthless, the opposing LBs, DEs, blitz, getting away from them, and etc.. training takes months but injuries takes seconds..
though training camps and preseason might help.. and again starting him early is a bad choice..

they can't be much worse. josh mcown will start out the season, but when jamarcus is ready, he will play. he won't be immediately effective, like vince young was last year. he will take time to develop. a few years. i think he will take over midseason because there will be so much pressure from the fan base. they can't just have the #1 pick in the draft sit there for a season when mcown is losin games. the raiders will be better, i give them 6 wins

Yeah but JaMarcus Russell might (hopefully not) become the next Ryan Leaf.

It will make the Raiders better, but they will still be terrible. Depending on how Russell adapts to the NFL and how well he learns his plays will depend on when he starts, but it will be sometime this year.
