Marble is a metamorphic rock resulting from the metamorphism of limestone, composed mostly of calcite (calcium carbonate) it can have fine to coarse-grained granoblastic (phaneritic equi-granular ) textures, it effervesces in dilute hydrochloric acid. Marble is often banded with various colors and sometimes veined, it color varies widely; white: cream, grey, red, green and often streaky with light and dark patches. It was extensively used as a building material and in ornamentation, mostly sculpture.

Marble is simply metamorphosed limestone. So it is still Calcium carbonate but its structure has been altered by heat and pressure.
