Typically "unique" is not a good thing for baby names. There is a good reason no one has named kids some of those "unique" names. I would look at the top 100 baby names by gender, and focus on #'s 50-100 if you want a name that is not too weird and that everyone won't say "what?" or "how do you spell that?" Your child won't be one of five in his/her class with the same name but will bump into others once in a while to make her feel like her parents weren't drunk at the time. My first born is Bethany Grace (17yrs old) which was name #75 for girls at the time and she loves it. People know her by her first name and she has never been looked at like, "uh......OK......that's......uh...... unique......." Set your child up for success, not confusion and a lifetime of explaining why your folks named you Apple or Moon Unit. I worked in Children's hospitals for 14 years and you would not believe the crap parents name their kids. It is how you raise them that will make your baby a unique person in this world. Leave the funky names to gerbils and puppies. I wish you the best in your pregnancy, and here's to a healthy baby!

I named my daughter Shanna Leah and my son Dalton Alexander. There were unique at the time and no other kids in their classes had their names so it was their own. They were different but not the kind of name that somebody would say "what were your parents thinking". They are 19 & 21 and I still don't think either name is very common. I was originally going to name my daughter Shannon but decided that it was too common by the time I got around to using it. I saw Shanna in one of the baby books and liked that much better than Shannon.

Well....as a parent of a "uniquely named child" the best way to solve this problem is to name from the HEART. Everyone has a name they adore, but 9 times out of 10 its too plain. Adding prefixes and suffixes, and changing spelling can sometimes spice it up. For example... I love the name Imaine. So I decided to add the prefix "Za" and changed the spelling, and.......walla I got my daughters name: Zamonie'.

Well I know a couple of girl ones if you want to hear them Teal, Aqua, Lyra, Cyan, Kirsti, Cassidy, and Cassie. Some boys, though I don't think they're very good but they may sound good to you, Thaddeus, Butch, Benji, Denny, Jesse, and those are all the unique names I can think of right now.
