I was ripping CDs onto my laptop. In the middle of ripping one CD it stopped. In the column that shows which tracks had been ripped and which were pending it said 'Error' for one of the tracks and didn't appear to be ripping any more. I tried to eject the CD a few times, but it wouldn't let me. Within the next thirty seconds it ejected, but when I put in another CD it wouldn't read it. I shut down the laptop for a few minutes, but after turning it back on it still won't read the CDs. It's plugged in and the battery is full, if that means anything. I have no idea what made it stop working.

Have you tried rebooting?

Make sure that if the drive is removable (most laptop drives can be removed), that it's plugged into the system firmly. If it's NOT removable, and still doesn't read discs after restarting the system, then chances are that it's damaged. If it's still under warrentee, send it back and have them fix it. If it's outof warrentee, take it to somebody who knows how to take a part laptops and see if they can find an answer, or replace your drive.
