Are you asking what a subpoena is or what it means to have a subpoena served to you?

A subpoena is a written order requiring a person to appear in court at a specific date to give testimony.

You can get subpoenas served for different reasons but typically they are trial subpoenas and deposition subpoenas.

No such word, but people say, "I was was subpoenaed," which means they received a subpoena. A subpoena is a command from the court to either come to a hearing or trial at court or to give copies of documents to an attorney or to give deposition testimony before the trial. The subpoena itself tells you what the specific command is and where and when you are expected to do it.

Subpoena literally means, "under penalty". If you fail to appear where and when the subpoena directs, you will almost certainly be penalized for it, and you may even be jailed. The only way out is to prove that it is unfair for you to appear in that location at that time. This will not usually prevent you from appearing... they'll just re-schedule.

It is a compulsory demand for something.or someone.

Example: A subpoenae is mainly used for the purpose of enforcing someone to show up to court. Failure to appear would result in one being in contempt of court, making one subject to arrest.

It is a mandatory court order to appear at the date and time and court session stated on the summons.

Failure to do so may result in fines, court costs, and perhaps jail time.
