All empires fall from dominance at some point. The Romans were once the most powerful. Spain had a time of dominance after discovering the "new world". The British were extremely powerful because of their unmatched naval superiority. Now the United States is considered the most powerful country in the world. But that will come to an end some day....very likely sometime in the next half century as you can already see the seeds of our fall from dominance taking root. I think we are already on the journey to the end (not from existence, but from dominance). We are largely coasting on the momentum of our former greatness.
We can talk about deficits and the dollar falling, but the real culprit is the people. Our population is increasing in self-centeredness and ignorance (or am I just getting smarter? ha ha) and decreasing in wisdom and morality....the perfect environment for corruption to flourish.

So who do you think will be the next superpower? Why?

One of two things, or China will dominant, or the UN will, that is the way the world is heading.

I say China because it is rapidly becoming the world's bank, and the economy is soaring sky high, besides the incredibly HUGE population, and the SUPER military, and they produce seemingly all the stuff we use (LOL), plus all the technology they have, so why not? I don't think it will be long either!

The UN has been on the scene long enough to have some so-say in the matter, so it is possible that no country ever becomes the super power, instead, see the likes of a one world government. Why? To much biblical prophecy is being fulfilled.

The US will always be A superpower, not THE superpower in the future. Mainly because of its strategic location and abundunt natural resources. I can see however, that China will come into its own for one. Also, I could see countries forming blocs. The European Union could also be a superpower. Problem is that everyone there has their own national identity (Italian, German, etc). The only thing they have in common is they share one currency. I could also see South America forming one bloc as well in the future. I would never count Russia out. They still have tons of Nukes. Anyways, it is not that America is losing influence, it is that the rest of the world is playing catch up. America will always be the safest place to invest money. Mainly because it is safe (separated by two oceans) unless the Mexicans or Canadians try to invade us. Also because most of the worlds workers and intellectuals will continue to try to make a life in the US as well. Also, thanks to our culture which is spead by movies and products (Where in the world can you not find Coke?) that will always fire up the imagination of those trying to make a life here. We will always be dominant, but we will have to make room in the near future for other superpowers at the table.

I don't think there will be another super power. Eventually the entire globe will be a complete set of republics. A superpower has military dominance, but with every country enjoying a global economy, military dominance will be unnecessary since outside attacks would be universally decreed as self-destructive. I'm not saying this will happen any time soon, but it will happen before the U.S. were to fall.

China will be the next superpower. In fact the process has already begun. Due to the sheer size of the population, whatever direction this country moves, the world is pulled in that direction too. Their rapid economic growth has created a monetary "tilt" in world affairs. Whatever they do,it will create a new pull to the East.At the same time,we are drowning in our own vomit here at home. The jackal jihadists think our liberalism represents weakness.

China. They are much more patient than most, and have a long, long history for a reference as to what needs to be done to achieve dominance. They also have a population that cannot speak out against their policies, without fear of quite harsh retribution.
And the numbers of people, can't forget the numbers.

I think it is obvious that it will be Greenland. Once this Global Warming melts the glaciers, all the intelligent and freedom loving people will move there and abandon all the socialism in the rest of the world, setting up a paradise for the productive.

I see Russia being a resurgent power due to its oil and natural resources.

However, China is growing in power.
