My friend is due to have her first baby in about a month. I would like to take her dinner one of the nights after she gets out of the hospital. The problem is, I don't know what to make! She won't tell me anything she specifically wants. She isn't that much of a cook herself, so I know she would appreciate anything. The only things I can think of are lasagne and spaghetti. Never had a baby myself, so I don't know if some foods are off limits for a while after childbirth? What is a good meal that somebody brought you or one that you have made for somebody else? Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Either of those choices are excellent.

Personally...I think the lasagna would be easier to eat (one handed, and exhausted)

Nothing is off limits.

Anything she can warm up quickly and eat easily would be a bonus for her.

You're very thoughful by the way.

What a nice friend! :)

Lasagna is an excellent choice. Make a nice green salad and some garlic bread to go with it and she'll love it. One of my favorite things to take new moms is a pot roast. Many people don't make it anymore despite how easy it is. I also have a great chicken and broccoli casserole that goes to new moms pretty often. I have also been the recipient of meals after having babies and I will tell you that anything home made is very appreciated. Beef stew, meat loaf, and home made macaroni and cheese are personal favorites of mine. Add a salad and/or a vegetable with some fresh fruit for dessert and you can't go wrong. As far as food restrictions after child birth, there generally aren't any unless the mom has some personal food sensitivities or allergies.

I'm sure she would appreciate anything you bring. She can eat anything she wants after giving birth. It might be nice if you make lasagna in an aluminum foil pan. Then she wouldn't have to worry about cleaning it and getting it back to you. Another thing she might appreciate would be a large meal in two pans so she can heat/eat it on 2 separate days.

It's all fair game after the baby's born! You should probably check with her though because sometimes too much of certain foods in the diet could change the flavor of the breast milk if she is breast feeding and the baby may not like it.

Anything that is easy to heat up and eat with one hand will work. After having a baby taste doesn't matter. I only ate because I had to. If I had a choice I would have rather slept than ate.

Lasagna and spaghetti are good, wont hurt the baby if she is breastfeeding nor her. She would really appreciate the break.

Lasagna is great, it is easy to heat up. My friend brought our family some chicken breasts and potatoes. It was great not to have to worry about cooking. You are a great friend.

After childbirth you can eat whatever you want.

However foods that can be eaten with one hand are always appreciated ;-)
