There are WOOD TICKS and DEER TICKS in North America, that is it. Why do people think just because bears live with deer, that there are BEAR ticks, and LION ticks? Ticks vary in color, thats a common known fact. There are no bear ticks or dog ticks or anything! WOOD ticks and DEER ticks, thats it.

I've been camping since I was 3, and never have I heard anyone say anything about 'so many types of ticks'. Maybe you should just camp with smarter people.

There are actually 3 found in the US...Lone-star, dog or wood, and deer. Actually cat ticks are a different sub-species from the dog tick. There are a lot more species found throughout the world.

There are many different species of tick around the world just as there are different species of spider and scorpion. They evolved to fill certain niches.
