Buells are great Street bikes. Their engines are really reliable and you will never have to do a bucket/shim valve adjustment. Fuell economy is better than the RRs by far. No chain maintenance or adjustments.
You will feel the engine beneath you, whic is part of the Buell charm. The down points would be lack of a fuell gauge (you get an idiot light marking 1 gal left and a display of miles since the idiot light came on), air cooling (stop and go in the summer is a no go, but you will probably split anyways).

Hi, I am the owner of a 2005 XB9S CityX and I really love it. The power is enough for what you can use it here in the US (I am Italian so I am used to other speeds) and the torque makes starting from a stop a very nice instant in your rides. The motorbike handles the curves so perfectly that you will always search for more. My only complains are about the service, first, if you don't live close to a dealer that makes service for the bike you will have to ride for 30miles to find one, like in my case. Second, I asked to fix a problem in the windshield because it is touching the frame and is scratching but at Buell they said they cannot solve the problem in warranty because it is a functional defect ( caused by the wind and the vibrations) and not a manifacturing defect. I expected more from an US brand, in this case.

they have some good ideas but there is only so much you can do with that crapo motor. Its big clunky and under powered. the gas tank swing arm ideas are good but the rest is only so so at best. they run a 1300 of that bike in the 600 ama class if that tells you anything

Took one for a test ride, found it to be top heavy. I think people have got it confused with a bike that handles well as it tips into to corners quick on account of it wanting to fall over!
The motor should be running a water pump out in the desert, it vibrates badly, makes a lot of noise and is very rough.
Only my opinion!
The front brake is genius though and works very well.
As for racing, it may go well in a straight line- but where the fun in racing bikes in a straight line?????

Actually, one of the magazines (I can't remember which one, but one that caters usually to Jap crotch rockets) in their year end reviews, said the Buell was "THE BEST handling bike IN THE WORLD".

I took a Lightning XB12STT for a demo ride recently. A bit more power than I really needed for a commute, but I liked the riding position and its sense of real world practicality. They're not designed to win races, but they are good at what they're built for, fun and practical street riding.
