Depends on the scope of the POA. If the scope is wide and you're giving your representative broad authority over your affairs, then I'd contact every place that needs your "signature" - i.e. banks, brokerage company, IRS, other financial institutions etc - and ask them what their process is. Often, they will want the original sent to them. They want to confirm the original, make a copy, and send it back to you.
