I had older brothers and a sister, who still weren't 18 but somehow rented R rated movies. I remember watching Nightmare on Elmstreet when I was 6 or 7..... which probably explains why I hate most horror movies now.

I also remember seeing that movie 9 1/2 weeks on video at our home when I was like 10. I have no idea where my parents were. LOL

I saw 'The Exorcist' - my first R-rated movie - when I was twelve. Some other older girl bought tickets in advance for my friend (also twelve) and me, and we just tried to waltz on in. Of course, the ticket taker guy stopped us and asked our age. I said deadpan, "seventeen".

The guy exchanged "knowing" looks with the lady who sold the tickets behind the booth, and she said, "Oh, I don't think it'll kill 'em". Then he just let us in.

That wasn't typical, though. I didn't really see any more R-rated movies until I was actually seventeen. We just HAD to see that movie. It was THE big movie of that time. (And incidentally, pretty much scarred me.)

These days kids don't need to concoct any elaborate schemes to see R-rated movies. Most theatres are so big, and are set up so that it's easy for kids to buy tickets to a PG-rated movie, then go to an R-rated once in. (Not that I'm suggesting you do that.)

I was 9 when I saw my first R rated movie, which surprised me because my mom can be pretty strict. She probably did not check the rating.
