Right before you go to bed watch a funny movie or read a silly book. This usually helps me. Also, sleeping in the bed with someone else helps a lot with my nightmares. Do that if it is an option for you. Lock your door to your bedroom if you can, and do whatever rituals you need to to reassure yourslef that you are safe (check under the bed.closet/etc). These little things can do a world of good. Good luck, I know what you are going through!

If you have a sensitive mind like me, you will know not to watch horror movies. But, if you do and you are scared, it will take time for your mind to analyze your new discovered Fear. The best way to get rid of your nightmares is to evaluate what you are afraid of. Think about the scariest part of the movie and face it. Analyze it. Then learn from the experience. Convince yourself that this fear is no longer frightening. Because you know that the fear is not real. It will take time for the film to leave your mind. But, it will leave your mind quicker if you choose to move onto other thoughts more positive.

Lesson learned. Watch positive movies for now on.

I went to the movie theater a long time ago and saw the Grudge. Stupid movie, but scared the pants off of me! I couldn't sleep in my room for a whole month. I am already afraid of the dark so that didn't help me either. What i finally did was just keep my mind occupied, went and saw a NON HORROR movie in the theater, hung out with friends, etc. Finally I completely forgot about it and slept perfectly fine! But I won't watch that movie anymore for fear I will go back to not sleeping lol.

Do everything you'd normally do to relax. I'd listen to music, watch Cartoons, watch funny/stupid movies such as Re-Animated or check some of the IMDB.com Bottom 100s that are like rated PG. Sleep with lights on or sleep with whole family. Try to get out of the house frequently and do things outside like shopping or such.
Hope this helps!

My son has the same problem with the Grudge. I tried to help him and then I discovered he was watching it again and had done it frequently... So be sure to quit watching it...Okay and then it will take a little time! I had the same problem with the movie "Seven"! If you have not seen "28 Days Later" the first one, then I suggest you avoid it as well.

Watch some funny movies, like "Princess Bride" to take the edge off.
