Some really good anime are:
DN Angel - theres this guy named daisuke who on his sumthing bday (i forget which) becomes Dark, a genetic transformation thing (dark is REALLY hot)
the duty of being dark was to steal artwork, and whatever he is to steal would appear in the news and everyone would always watch on tv or be at the crime scene. of course, he never gets caught. Daisuke likes this girl at school and shes part of twins. At the beginning of the episodes, he liked her. But then, something changed and he started to lyk her sister. At the end, it was soooo cute how they kissed nd evrything.
Chobits - its kind of perverted but not overly so its fine. this guy finds a persicon (a machine that resembles humans, only difference is the ears, where they have ears lyk cats), which are expensive. theres this whole thing where chii, the name of the persicon, learns new things. Then theres this huge part where she starts reading this series of books that seem extremely similar to her life (the books are pretty sad) and basically she falls in love w/ the dud who found her and yeah...
Inuyasha - basically the whole romance part of this anime is that at the beginning, inuyasha couldn't chose btwn kagome or kikyo, and then after that, kagome is kind of in this love triangle, except its that both inuyasha and koga like her, but she only likes inuyasha.

Prince of Tennis.It's all about tennis-superb tennis play.Its about a 12 year old guy who used to live in U.S.A and and won four titles in a row and he is child prodigy.He then goes to back to Japan,his home country and enter Seishun Gakuen,a school.He entered the tennis club and became one of the regulars although he is still a freshman.The regulars there are all awesome!They each have their own style of playing tennis and watching them all play is simply awesome.And there are also some hilarious love stories about the regulars.You can go to Anime Otakus and find all about it.

The only manga I've read (and currently am reading) is The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, I like it so far :) Hope this helps
