Disregarding Kobe and LeBron, I think Cleveland is. The Cavaliers could still manage to stand strong if they had to play without LeBron. Without Kobe though, the same couldn't be said for the Lakers.

Hey AJ,
i think you would have to say that excluding Kobe and LeBron that the Cavs most definitely have the better team.
Before i give you my analysis- for all the people that says that LeBron's Cavs are in the finals and Kobe's Lakers are not- i think we forget that the Cavs basically got a bye in round 1 playing an Arenas and Butler (two all-stars) less Washington team. The Lakers could have beaten the Suns if they were missing Nash and Amare.
Ok this is why the Cavs have a better team:
1) Big Z. The Cavs have a legitimate big man in Big Z. This is a center poor league and they have a big man who can score in the post and can make free-throws which makes team less likely to hack and they do have to double team. Kwame has bad hands and Bynum is too inconsistent.
2) Daniel Gibson. Daniel Gibson was amazing against the Pistons (and he's only a rookie). The Lakers have no one who could have stepped up like that off the bench. Overall with Varajo and Pav you'd have to say that the Cavs bench is more talented.
3) 2nd Scorer: Even though Lamar has better numbers than Larry Hughes. Hughes is a much more consistent 2nd scorer. Lamar has his spurts- but clearly is not comfortable on the floor with Kobe whereas Hughes fits in very well with LeBron.
4) Heart. i think overall the role players on the Cavs have more heart than those of the Lakers. Veterans like Donyell Marshall and Eric Snow give the Cavs a toughness that the Lakers lack. Other than Kobe and Turiaf, the Lakers squad for the most part is timid and lacks heart.
5) On the floor leadership. i think one of the reasons the Lakers sucked so bad this year was because of their point guard- Smush Parker. The Cavs with Hughes, Snow, and Pav, and the devleoping Gibson, have players with more heart and basketball IQ than the trio of: Parker, Farmar, and Vujacic. i think Farmar has a decent basketball IQ and needs to work on his jumper and get more in shape for the long NBA season, but the other two are really clueless.
6) Defense. The Lakers defensively was horrendous this year. So many teams esp.in the playoffs (or when you examine a team at the end of the year and see how many close games they lost) a defensive stop here or there could have made the difference.
7) East vs West. Another thing that is hard to measure is that the Cavs play in the much easier East. Sorry all you Cavs fans as great as LeBron has been does anyone believe that if Cleveland was in the West that they could have even made it to (or even if past the 2nd round). The East is a joke compared to the West.
Those are my thoughts.

While it is true that the West is superior to the East, it seems that some people are taking it a little bit too far. In my opinion, the top teams in the East (Detroit, Cleveland, Miami, Chicago) begin to become competitive right around the 3rd or 4th seed in the West. This year I don't think there was a team in the East that could touch the Mavs or Suns. I think Cleveland will provide a good series against the 3rd seeded Spurs.
Cleveland would probably take the Lakers out in game 5 or 6. Just like with the Spurs, the Cavs swept the home/away season series with the Lakers. Also, it is unlikely the Lakers could match the fact that Cleveland has a better winning percentage without their superstar (8-2 since his arrival in Cleveland) than with him (Obviously this is not a knock on LeBron, but a compliment to the players around him).
The Cavaliers record against the strong West - 19-11 .633
The Lakers record against the Weak East - 14-16 .467
Overall the records indicate Cavs win 52-30 vs Lakers 42-40. Another point of slight significance is that the Central is the toughest division in the East and there is a significant drop in talent and basketball success after the Suns in the Pacific Division.
The fact that this is an argument is really the work of a poor and exaggerating sports media that portrays the East as helpless mostly because of two post-Jordan teams dominating the finals (The Lakers and Spurs). There are other reasons, and I would never argue the East is on par with the West, but the difference is not that vast as it usually never is in larger professional sports landscapes.

Cleveland followers, quit protecting your team's losses to the Lakers. LeBron became into close all the way down to a definite quantity. interest a million he shot 9-25 (.360) and interest 2 he shot 5-20 (.250). whilst the guy averages 28 PPG and tremendously much 50% from the sphere, his overall performance in the two video games became into under universal. genuine he could have outperformed Kobe in interest 2 yet Kobe did no longer play his widely used minutes. i'm hoping the Cavs do flow 40-a million at homestead basically so all and sundry is acquainted with who the only team that beat them became into. The checklist would not count and homestead court docket won't count whilst the Celtics will face the Lakers interior the finals.

The Cavaliers have better players on paper than the Lakers
Ilgauskas is heads and shoulders better than Kwame Brown, and Larry Hughes and Gibson are just more efficient than Smush Parker and Jordan Farmar as point guards (more productive too)
The Lakers don't have an energy-type role player like Anderson Varejao who can help down the stretch, the closest they have to that is Lamar Odom (a-do-it-all player) or Ronny Turiaf, who doesn't get as much playing time as Varejao anyway.
How bout some shooters? Luke Walton and Brian Cook were good, but they lost steam down the stretch of the season.. whereas Donyell Marshall was more consistent i think.
Overall, the Cavaliers are a much better team.. this coming from a Laker fan

santosh 23, you dont know anything...
1. yes, i do believe the could get past the wizards, they did last year, and they won the season series.
2. The Nets are 41-41-exactly .500
3. The Pistons' first and second options are Billups and Hamilton. Wallace is their third.
4. Why would you say LeBron isn't a superstar? He scored 48 points in game 5!
5. the lakers are in the west.
6. no one on the lakers were injured except for chris mihm. Lamar Odom suffered an injury May 15.
cavaliers are better, btw.

okay, i can not believe that you asked this question!
Cavs easily
the cavs are a better team anyhow with lebron and kobe playing
without them the lakers are definatley a lottery team but without lebron the cavs might be fighting for the lower spots in the playoffs. but they would never get far.

I would have to say the Cavs (despite being a Lakers fan) LJ makes everyone around him better and is a far better passer. Kobe just wants to be the leading scorer each night.

I would say the Lakers, simply because they have lamar Odom and also KObe, being that he is the best NBA has seen since MJ. Dont crown Lebron yet... do u really think, Lebron gets past Arenas and Caron Butler has they been healthy... The Cavs beat a below .500 NJ nets team... Pistons suck ok.... the reason being.. they are good defensively but when some1 needs to take over like Lebron did, They have NO1... thier 1st option is Sheed Wallace!!!... how pathetic is that??.... Every year Kobe and lakers won the title they had to go through teams like ROckets, KINGS, SPURS, Minnesota... and Wat is lebron going through? Superstar less Wizards, below.500 Nets???
THR SPURS ARE GONNA BEAT THEM SILLY... they are goung to show Lebron how Bball is played.... Lebron is a all star... he has not reached the superstar level yet....
Trust me.. if the Lakers were healthy and they were in the west... Lakers would be the team to beat in the east... and they woulda beat the suns.. HAD THEY BEEN HEALTHY.... and had SMUSH PARKER gotten ran over by a bus.
