does anyone know a way to get around this? i am frustrated that i can't search for or offer for a pokemon that i haven't seen. this makes it kind of impossible to get all the pokemon.

Go to gamefaqs.com and go to the diamond > trading forum. It is a good solution if you do not have neither of the gba games.

Wow... You are going to attempt to capture ALL of the Pokemon?... Well best of luck to you, couldn't hurt to get the Nintendo Power Strategy Guide as well as the National Pokedex (either version is fine). And one of the Gameboy Advance games...
And be sure to make some time for it, I have been playing Pokemon Diamond for 75 hours and I am not anywhere near finished.
