Because AlGore is the greatest scientist in the world and before he invented the internet AlGore secretly lectured at every university while disguised as the best science professor from each college he graced with his presence. Because of this, when AlGore speaks it is science, but AlGore knows the only way he can save the world is to pretend to be a politician because we all know pointy headed scientists are too hard to understand, so AlGore has to pretend to not be one.
Don't question AlGore. If you make him spend too much time defending his positions he won't have time to save us all as only he can do.

Science isn't politicized just as Republicans dislike Hollywood, even though they keep getting political candidates that are entertainers.
Al Gore is a politician, but he also has great crowd appeal, charisma, and a good sense of humor. By lending his efforts to Global Warming, you and I will pay more attention to it than we would if some Joe Shmo narrated things.
It's as simple as that.

Well, the /face/ of Global Warming is politicized. That doesn't mean there might not be a body of evidence holding it up.
But, seriously, it's just because he put his head in the slot. The issue had been around for a long time, he just finally decided to capitalize on it - and succeeded.

Because politics has been scientized.
Just because a politician talks about science doesn't mean the science is politicized. That's a simple logical fallacy. You know, like saying if all cats are animals, then all animals are cats. Nope.

Because he presented the scientific data in a form that was accessible to the masses.
He had nothing to do with gathering or analyzing the data. Therefore science hasn't been politicized.

Good question.
What we do with the environment is a political matter
more than it is a scientific matter.
I hope I gave you a fair answer, because your question really is a good one, even though it looks simple and whimsical at a glance.
