It is all about money. Al Gore knows it and is milking it for all it is worth. He flies around on his private jet, telling others to conserve, but he does not have to because he buys "carbon credits" and will leave a neutral carbon footprint.
1. If you burn X amount of fossil fuels, I do not care how much money you throw at it, you have still burned X amount of fossil fuels.
2. He is part owner of the company who sells carbon credits, so not a big deal for him to buy them.
3. If he TRULY felt that we had control, and it was our responsibility to conserve...NO MATTER HOW MANY CREDITS HE BUYS...he would take at least the most basic steps to conserve...like fly commercially, etc.
He is such a poser and so is anyone who is out there flying private jets, traveling in limos, and preaching for conservation.
Do not get me wrong...I am not complaining about how much fuel they use. I take small steps to conserve, but am not one to tell others how to live. I AM complaining that they are preaching conservation with NO ATTEMPT TO PRACTICE WHAT THEY PREACH!
Nickel...the part you are missing is that if you are not trying to conserve anything yourself, and doing it all to line your own pocket, then you are a hypocrite and are not going to be taken seriously.

Absolutely global warming is about the money and the hypocrites and weak minded are feeding for all they are worth (which is not much); just ask Fred Singer (ref 1).
GW also is a way for global socialists to try to control the US economy instead of reforming their high-tax economies.
Like many myths and fallacies today there are usually more negative effects than positive (e.g., DDT doesn't help birds {see summary in ref2} but *does* allow malaria to kill more Africans than aids does).
Just for political giggles, guess who is more eco-friendly at home - like using geothermal energy - Gore or Bush; then read the Snopes reference below (ref 3).

Isn´t computer science about money ?
Aren´t cars about money ?
Arent´t divorces about money ?
Is there anything that has not to do with money ?
If you want to establish a system which requires a certain effort, opportunities, threats, and so on, you need to quantify it with a certain tool. And money IS this tool, if you like it or not... nothing wrong with it.
Or do you expect people in the energy sector to work 60 hours a week for free ?
IS IT LESS MORAL TO EARN MONEY BY IMPROVING THE ENVIRONMENT THAN BY SELLING WEAPONS ?
