Very educational to those who were receptive to it. I watched it the first go round and it was groundbreaking in the 70's. Now we have Blacks who are in denial of their roots and just don't care. To hear them tell it they aren't descended from Africa.. they are mixed with this or that... they have never had slaves in their family... etc.
I thank God I came along when I did. I appreciate every last aspect of my heritage and culture. Black is Beautiful. It is superior... not inferior. I love me and I love Black people in spite of themselves. Alex Haley's people were from The Gambia, West Africa. Did you know there is only one living relative left and her name is Binta Kinte. Alex Haley is the African Ambassador to the United States. Ain't history grand?

Possibly. It was the first miniseries which is why many may believe it was the best. There was nothing else to compare it to at the time. I remember being glued to the television when it first aired. It was awesome in a weird way considering what it was about. I felt for that guy who got his toes cut off. Still sends a chill up my back.

IDK if it was the best, but it had to be on the top 10 at least. I thought it was an awesome series and I truly believe that all high school students , in every school in the country, should be required to see this mini-series and discuss it openly in their history classes, in hopes that future generations will never allow such atrocities to occur again in our history. That is my hope, and no I'm not African American.

Definitely. If you liked it you should read "queen" which was Alex Haley's other side of the family. I think they also made a movie with Haley Berry as the lead.
