I do believe 'the show must go on' however, I also believe that where ones health is a major factor, or if you are singing and you completely loose your voice -and are the only performer, you need to consider your situation. Sometimes, it might be a situation where you can refund the money or have another show. I don't believe that continuing to 'run' on a broken ankle would have make people respect you any more or less. In fact, you could have done more damage. Your health is more important than the "show". I play for a church and I am the only 'pianist'. I have been hospitalized, but believe me, the choir sang 'acapella'. I used to feel really bad when something was going on with me and I was not able to do my 'job'. I have learned over the years that I am one person. If I were to drop dead tomorrow - there would be another teacher in my room doing that job, and the pastor of my church would certainly find another piano player. The show does go on - with or without us.

me! I bought incubus tickets so i could take my wife to see Incubus on her 21st birthday weekend. They cancelled because the guitarist broke his wrist. Couldnt understand why they cancelled, i mean last year at download? KoRn played without the singer. The most important member of most bands.
Couldnt understand why Incubus cancelled. Why couldnt they have got a session guitarist?? So one very upset wife who has to wait til september

Yes.. but if I broke a bone I'm pretty sure I'd go to the hospital... then the show can go on.

i do believe that the show must go on no matter what. but god, my health, my family, and my friends come first before any thing else. i would go with the show if nothing else came first.

I don't. Some times unforseen things happen and you have to cancel the show.

i was on a geography field trip in Derbyshire, coming down Mam Tor in pouring rain.....tried to impress the lady guide (by crikey she was hot)...i was 18 !....by jumping over this stream...with a rucksack on my back...
yup....misjudged the weight distribution coefficients....managed the jump, fell on my back, slid forward on my bum, mud everywhere, rain everywhere and twisted my ankle !
DOH....
but i soldiered on & still managed to get back to camp ahead of everyone....so i could wimper in the corner!
