Not necessarily. Most people in america have at least one Grandparent who was a different nationality, and most of us are Heinz fifty sevens ( a little bit of everything) as opposed to Europe were there tends to be less blending across ethnic lines. It's not forbidden for an italian to marry a Swede, just that Italians encounter a lot more Italians. You would be 1 quarter Roma Gypsy. I am part Cherokee, part English and part German. That makes me American. :)The only exception to the rule is Jewishness. This is a Matrineal quality, passed from mother to children. So, if you mom, or you mom's mom are Jewish, you are too.

I also suspect that had you been raised in the traditions of those people, you would also be considered Gypsy, regardless of you heritage.

All of these answers are acurate to a degree, modern gypsy has no discernable lineage, but embrace a calling to an ideal that free folk can still come together in a comunity without fealty(swearing of oaths) reducing them to servants...
ther are a great many things in your bloodline to take pride in and many sorrows too
all cultures on your list were descended from castaway people so you owe much to their memory and strength will be found the stories reveald

As a fellow granddaughter of a gypsy, I say you can be a gypsy if you want. The gypsy lifestyle, was just that, a lifestyle. Anyone could be a gypsy...however, certain people were more inclined to it.

Black Irish is a mix of spanish and irish. This came from the sinking of the spanish armada near Ireland. Some of the spanish sailors escaped and blended into the irish population. My grandmother told me this as some of her ancestory was black irish.

What is "roma?" Is it short for Romanian?

Gypsy is not a nationality, it's a way of life. You and I can join and become gypsies any time, if we wanted.

P.S. Shell we go and join?

"Gypsy" was originally a derogatory term for an Egyptian, so are you sure you'd even want that label?
