My son ran up a $10,000.00 hospital bill. My insurance paid all but $1800.00 which I can't afford on my single parent income.

Talk to their accounting department. Most hospitals do provide discounts on bills to people who can't afford them.

Good luck.

Contact the billing department and inform them about your situation. You will be asked to complete a financial form indicating your income, etc. They will decide whether to "forgive" the debt based on that information. Be prepared to wait for awhile before you hear about their decision. By the way, you can always appeal that decision if you truly feel a mistake was made. Good luck. Be sure to keep records on WHO you talk to, AND always get their extension numbers.

They won't forgive, they have to pay the people who worked on your son. Talk to them and see if you can work out a small payment schedule. If it hasn't already, it will get sent to creditors and they'll call you everyday.
