Yup- I have about 3 months' worth of expenses saved up at the moment. Hopefully I won't have an emergency, and I will be able to use the money for a down payment on a home after it's grown some more!

I have to disagree with the first answer. If your emergency fund 'doubles' as anything, you don't have an emergency fund. My emergency fund is quite small at the moment, but I do have one.

Yes, but I'm 40 & just started it. You s'posedly need enough to get you through 3 months as a rough idea. I have 2 ( :. I started paying $200 more in rent to myself!

Our savings account doubles as this, but we've never needed to dip into it for this. Still nice to know its there if something came up.
