Yup- I have about 3 months' worth of expenses saved up at the moment. Hopefully I won't have an emergency, and I will be able to use the money for a down payment on a home after it's grown some more!

I have to disagree with the first answer. If your emergency fund 'doubles' as anything, you don't have an emergency fund. My emergency fund is quite small at the moment, but I do have one.

Yes I do. I m a business major and I learned that one should have at least 3 paychecks saved up for emergencies.

Yes, but I'm 40 & just started it. You s'posedly need enough to get you through 3 months as a rough idea. I have 2 ( :. I started paying $200 more in rent to myself!

If I missed two paychecks in a row I would get thrown into debtors prison.

Our savings account doubles as this, but we've never needed to dip into it for this. Still nice to know its there if something came up.

yes, I didn't always, but I increased my savings, using direct deposit from work, and have 6 months salary put away....
