From 2002-2006, the GOP controlled both Congress and the Presidency, yet never put together a bill which could have been railroaded through Congress and past the protests of the Democrats.

Why did the GOP Congress and Bush shirk their duty to America?

Why is this bill being labeled as "Kennedy's" bill, when Ted Kennedy could have been completely bypassed for 4 years?

More hypocrisy?

First of all, a bill could not have been "railroaded" through, it would have been filibustered by the minority like countless other bills and appointments. You need 60 votes to break a filibuster and it's doubtful there would have been enough because the majority was only a small one, despite all the lies saying it was simply "a Republican controlled rubber stamp." The current bill is garbage. It is amnesty despite what even the republicans are saying. If you actually read the bill, you'll see that these criminals get to jump ahead of those who are trying to do it legally. The enforcement spoken of in the bill uses "triggers" and these are inadequate. Backround checks on 20 million people? Good luck getting any accuraccy out of those.

Conservative republicans are against the bill. Unfortunately, the President is more of a moderate as are some others in congress and the Senate.

We call it "Kennedy's Bill" because he pretty much wrote it. Sure they could have done plenty of things with control of congress but they would not.

You will never find a real conservative supporting any president regardless of his party affiliation when he is trying to do the wrong thing.

I voted for him twice but on this issue he is dead wrong. I vow, and ask my fellow conservatives to join me, that if this bill passes I will not donate a single dollar to the republican party. I will contribute directly to the candidates I wish to succeed and in the case of any republican who votes for this bill, I will redouble my contribution to the next republican who opposes him for office.

They are trying to present something and make it sound good only to have the democrats knock it down so they can point fingers. Problem is the Bill is so pathetic that they can't even get most of the republicans on board with it.

The same reasons so many Democrats are outraged by it. It's a bad bill.
