NO Cologne.
How about stainless steel tray(s)/platter(s) with a cover to bring the food in. Embroidered grilling mitt or a personlized apron.
How about some personalized coozies to keep his beer cold on cookouts.
Does he golf? New golf shoes (keep the receipt), golf gloves or a personalized golf towel.
If you sew, make something from your lingire and whisper some clever message when he opens it. It'll be YOUR secret. Maybe would be better for an anniversary gift ; )
No cologne
If the kids are old enough, ask THEM for suggestions and, if' not too farout, get what they suggest.... even if a little silly. Also, the kids should make a handmade Father's day card. If they're not old enough, maybe a framed commercial portrait of your young family OR a framed favorite photo with Dad and the kids. Otherwise, just have the kids photographed and framed.
Did I say No cologne?
I don't think I did so.... NO COLOGNE!

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:
Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about your family. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!
The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.
Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.
Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

A cool apron
Some gourmet (as in, not Kraft) bbq sauce/rubs
A steak brand (not available for Father's Day, but you could give him a certificate saying it's on the way):

Nothing, he's NOT your father.
AND, if he is, you are a sick woman. This is what anniversaries are for, not FATHERS DAY.
