I want to catch ants for my new ant farm and i cant order them online. I've tried laying out bait then catching them with my fingers, but i only managed to catch 4. What is a better way to catch them? Or if anyone knows where i can order ants in the mail, not online!

Put a little honey or any sticky sweet thing in a mason jar or whatever is handy and lay it on its side next to an ant hill. They'll soon be all over the inside of the jar. Good luck!

Some people won't like this but here goes. The people at Uncle Milton's Ant Farms, the company that started selling ant farms catches them by diggin into an ant hill and when the ants all come out to defend the hill they use a handheld vacuum like a dust buster to suck them up. You might as well save some money and catch your own anyway, they can't ship queen ants so the ants need to be replaced occasionally. If you dig up an ant hill yourself though you should with a little patience and luck catch a queen. If so you could have a colony for years. I did this as a kid.

I don't think you should try to catch them with your hands because like you said, you can only catch a few, and you might injure them when you try to pick them up. I thought pet stores sold ants.. Well, you can put various food objects and watch for a few days to see which they like more, then put some in a couple jars by the ants mound, and they might go for the food then you can lift the jar up and you have a good 20-30 ants :)
