I know we all pay our taxes through withholding, except what we earn through investments - - - but you file your return, reminding you of how much it is in total, in April.

Anyone else think that if the country was founded on the link between taxation and representation, we ought to vote when we just filed or just started working on our tax returns, so that what we're paying will be on our minds?

I think the tax deadline should be the week before elections, let people vote when it's still fresh in their mind. There would be a lot more turnover in congress.

April 15th was selected because it's six months after elections

I think that when Congress wants a pay raise that it is tie to a public vote at tax time.

If they think they deserve a 30% above the cost of living prove to us you are worth it.

BTW: That would go for the president too.

That would be a great idea. I bet you would see heavy turnover in Congress if they did that and maybe even more third parties getting elected. Of course, I think the Congress has to decide that and they know that could cost them their jobs.

If people dont have enough of an attention span to remember how much taxes they paid or to make themselves a note of it then they are pretty hopeless.

No changes, please. Taxes and elections are two separate issues.
