You can empty the recycle bin, or use shoft + del to delete them. You can find software tools such as TuneUp Shredder to permenantly delete files.

Benny, every answer that has been given to you is 100% wrong. I am a board certified clincial psychiatrist. And have done contract work for intellligence agencies.

There are only two ways that you can delete data so that no computer forensic expert can obtain the data you only think is deleted.

All data remains on your HDD, including emails.

1) If you take out your HDD, and beat it to death with a hammer, no expert in the world can remove the data.

2) If you remove your HDD, and put in a safe, because you want to replace the HDD and retain the data. (I have to retain my data so the old HDD, goes into safe).

There is no software in the world, no matter what they claim, use of bleach or "Gutman", technique, wiping over and over, will stop an expert from striping the data off your HDD.

Only the two ways I mentioned. Plus I have a "living will", that stipulates along with other things that my HDD in my safe are to be destroyed with a hammer.\

Hi

You have to perform a "secure delete" to remove information permanently. This is the only real way to erase information off of magnetic media. This works by encrypting the data and deleting it many times over until its nothing more than unreadable code. Shredding is another technique but not nearly as effective. Also. The US Dept of Defense endorse "secure delete" as the only way to permanently remove data. Check out this link. Make sure its endorsed with the US DoD santization procedures.
Hope this helps

What he said ^^ is about as secure as you can get with windows. But it can still be recovered with a data recovery program. To securely delete something you need a program that deletes it and writes random junk over it a few times.
