Apparently there are two types of freedom: positive and negative. Negative is where you aren't bothered by politics and authority. Positive is where you are free to work towards a goal deemed worthy by those in power.
Due to their natures; specifically that adocates of negative freedom don't often want to shove their views down other peoples throats, the positive freedom lot have pretty much a free reign.
As a result we (as a country) are now involved in ID cards, ubiquitous CCTV, road pricing with satellite trackers, stop and question, lack of freedom of information relation to MPs, the invasion of Iraq.......

It's not the UK and US that is playing with your lives. It's the politicians (a.k.a leaders). Bad leaders are a reflection of the society because we create them, accept their lies and give them the authority to play games with our lives. The Americans, a supposedly very knowledgeable people re-elected GW Bush even after he had exposed his true colors - hate, lack of foresight and good judgement. But since Americans bend towards bigotry, we fell for his lies. We are paying for it with our children's lives. The British are a proud people and want to live with the past when they were emperors. Tony Blair, a nice man, fell for GWB lies. Why? Because he did not want to be left out in the conquests. Only there will never be anything to conquer. When you are older and a voter, vote with your conscience and not with perceived social and racial bias.

I'm from the UK and only in the media does it look like it's us and the USA but it's also most of Europe. It doesn't matter when they stop, it has gone too far now, and even the Russians want to blow us up.
