im a cubs fan so maybe im partly biased however if you look at their body of work and factor in that maddux did it w/o power pitching i just dont agree with it...factor in the fielding and hitting and we all know who the better baseball PLAYER is..

I DONT KNOW!! Its a travesty. He is not the best right hander. I still put Nolan Ryan above him no matter what the critics say.
Plus, you have to wonder about Clemens. It seems like anytime hes pitching in a big game and is struggling, he somehow gets hurt. Like in the 00 (or 99) WS when he gave up like 5 runs in the second inning and then while walking off the field, all of a sudden develops a limp???? Where did that come from???
I love the Yanks, but Clemens is definitely over-rated.
By the way...I would take Maddux over 22 ANYDAY. You are 100% right. Of all the OLD GUYS, Id say maddux is best , with smoltz right on his heels.

Easy answer. It's because the great Rog makes sure through his pathetic antics that his name is before the public all the time, even when he is not playing. Maddux is too classy a guy to play that game. The result is that most people think Clemens is better which he is and was not. Oops!! He was and is a better big mouth, self adorer, and non-team player. Clemens is, that is.

Because all things being equal, everyone goes for the power pitcher. Also, Clemens was/is better later in his career than Maddox - people have short memories (remenber Boggs way out hit Gwynn for many years, but all people talk about is Gwynn because he was better later). There are also plenty of people out there that think that Maddox benefited from an 'expanded strike-zone' more than any pitcher ever! Don't worry - both are headed to the Hall Of Fame.

ROger leads Maddux in all major statistical categories for pitchers he also was a more charasmatic pitcher which endears him to more fans and sports writers

the rocket has won more Cy Young Awards, has more wins , and has more strikeouts. statistically, he's way better than Maddux
