Pretty much the most un-useful things i purchased and ended up returning for more useful items, were the diaper genie- just makes extra work for you, also the wipes warmer, the swing i bought was not inclosed enough to make my daughter feel held in it was mostly just a seat with straps that rocked, so she would not tolerate being in there. The changing table was a waste, was easier to just change her on a blankie in the living room on the couch- plus a dresser is so much more economical cuz my daughter got sssssooooooo many clothes from all my family and friends, there wasn't nearly enough room in the changing table.
Most useful, for right at birth would be nursing bra, breast pads, cuz there will be a lot of milk :) Also your own shampoo and conditioner, the hospital offers you standard gross feeling shampoo, no conditioner.
Also i have found the best softest well working wipes are Pampers Sensitive wipes, once you use those, then feel other wipes they feel like sand paper. Also A & D ointment is great, my daughter has not had diaper rash once. Also the best nursing pads are by Johnson and Johnson, some can get a funny smell, or leak really quickly, i like those. Also the BEST thing to use for spit up rags and breastfeeding burp rags are the gerber cloth diapers, they are so thick and absorbent. most burp rags now a days are so thin, like t.p. They are mostly for looks.
Hope this advice helps! And congrats on the Bebe!
Oh also the play pen is SUPER great if you do a lot of outdoor activities, we go out on our boat alot, camping all sorts of stuff and I love her play pen, put them in there for naps, to play, I think that contributes to why my daughter loves the outdoors so much!
Also the bouncer to hang in the door way works great until they start to crawl, then it annoys them cuz they are stuck, and not able to explore.
Oh also all the necessary baby proofs for the house, outlet covers, and baby gates. Plus all your nick-nacks will move about 4 ft up from the floor- atleast... lol you'll see!

Yeah, I would say that a changing table is unnecessary...the floor with a blanket works just as well ;o) and the wipes warmers don't work that great and they end up breaking long before you want them to.
I would also say that a swing or bouncer is unnecessary at the very beginning because babies will usually want one or the other. My daughter hated bouncers but loved her swing. See if there's a way that you can try them both out with anyone that you know, or even at some of the stores after she's born.
You DO need a crib/bassinet/play pen, clothes, bottles, blankets and a baby monitor.
congrats to you!!

Clothes: Do not spend tons of money on clothes. I HIGHLY recomment E Bay for buying baby clothes. Most are in great condition and are very cheap. If you want to buy some winter clothes, even better, because right now people are selling those on E Bay for not a lot of money.
Formula: Stock up on some now, while you have a bit of extra cash. Even if you use WIC, you will still need to buy some formula of your own.
Diapers: Do not buy too many size 1 diapers because unless you have a baby under 5 pounds, you will not be in that stage of diapers very long. Stock up on stage 2 and 3.
As others have said, a bouncy chair is a life saver... you will be able to take a shower!!!!!!!!!
Hope this helps.

Congrats!! I am 29 weeks pregnant and I will just tell you some of the things we registered for.
Needs - Crib, clothes(onsies), diapers, wipes, bottles (unless you are breast feeding), swing, carseat, high chair(but you dont need this right away), pack and play, thermometer, pacifires, receiving blankets for swaddling, exersaucer (can wait to later), travel system
Things that we want but don't really need - diaper champ, boppy, travel swing, toys, bouncer,
Waste of money - wipe warmer and some consider diaper champ. Reason I say wipe wamer is a waste is bc the first time you wipe the baby without using a "warm" wipe it will freak the baby out!! And you can't take the wipe warmer every where you go.

Bouncer seats are great! Nappy wrappers are a waste. those bouncy things that hang from the door and my daughter also had like a round rubber ring to sit in which she loved. the play gyms are a waste she just laid on hers and did nothing! The bumbo chairs are ok but they dont use them for long. get plenty of bibs! i'm sure once you have had the baby you will get lots of unneccesary stuff, we did things like toys and blankets and things! Good luck and just think anything you don't use for this one you can save for the next!!! One other thing we found useless- bottle warmers! They take far too long to heat up!

I just had a baby 8 months ago, and what I can advice is organize a baby shower cause you will get lots of good things for baby and will save money!!!. Have everybody in your family and friends help you cause you will get tired.
For me the most important items are:
- diapers (but you will need to know the weight of your baby)
- baby powder and wipes.
- baby center with a newborn sling, baby wash, shampoo and lotion.
- stroller and car seat.
- don't buy lots of clothes cause babies grow up too fast.
- sterilizer for baby bottles
I hope these ideas will help you.

Don't buy a nappy wrapping bin, they are a waste of space. The nappy scaks are better and more efficient anyway.
Other than that, buy a bouncy chair for your baby.
I swear my daughter lived in that for the first few months :)
