You might be burning a little or you might have a small leak, at this point really nothing to worry about just insure you check it every week

According to GM service manuals, normal engine oil consumption is considered 1 quart in 1,000 miles. By design, every internal combustion engine will consume oil. Some just more than others. First verify that there are no oil leaks anywhere on the engine. You can try replacing the pcv valve if this engine uses one. More and more the automakers are going away from external pcv valves to internal pcv passages. I wouldn't be overly concerned at this point. Monitor the engine oil usage. If it gets worse, I would look into it further.

most newer vehicles don't use that much oil between changes, I have a 94 with 145,000 and it doesn't use any oil in 3,000 miles, I would say you have a small problem, maybe leaking oil on valve covers, oil pan etc., you might want to have a compression test done and the valve seals checked if it smokes a little when first started.

I certainly wouldn't be too concerned about your car's oil usage. That's not abnormal at all, especially for a smaller, hard working engine like in your Prism.
