THEY LISTENING FOR THE BABY'S HEARTBEAT AND YOU CAN ALSO HEAR THE SWOOSHING OF THE PLACENTA. THEY USUALLY WON'T PERFORM AN EXAM AT THIS POINT, BUT IF YOU HAVEN'T HAD ONE, THEN THEY WILL.
ALSO YOU MAY NOT FEEL YOUR BABY MOVE BUT YOU MAY BE ABLE TO HEAR IT. IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU PATTING YOUR HAND ON A MICROPHONE. ALL THE SOUNDS YOU HEAR WILL BE DESCRIBED TO YOU, SO THEY WON'T LEAVE YOU IN THE DARK FOR WHAT YOU ARE HEARING.
THEY ARE JUST LISTENING TO MAKE SURE THE BABY'S HEARTBEAT IS STRONG AND WILL ASK YOU ROUTINE QUESTIONS. SO THIS IS THE TIME TO TALK TO YOUR DR ABOUT WHAT EVER CONCERNS YOU MAY HAVE, NO MATTER HOW SMALL. DO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO PUT YOU AT EASE.

Ummmmm, have you been going to the dr. previously? you are almost 4 months pregnant and he/she should have already done this! They should be measuring you and listening for the baby's heartbeat every time just to make sure it is holding and everything is fine! If they are not, I would definately find a new obgyn. Another month to month and a half and you should have a sonogram. They should also be checking your weight and blood pressure each time and blood work at certain times.

They want to make sure the heartbeat is strong and regular and is at the level it needs to be for being 15 wks. They also listen to the valves open and close. It's a pretty cool popping noise.

They are listening for the heart beat. They will count to see how fast it is beating and listen for any murmurs. I go next week too!!!! And the instrument is a Doppler.
