I try to squash it but usually miss and the fly gets away so I guess I do the right thing by accident.

As i don't know if it's just left a dog's mess,i have to say i'd squash it.
If i saved it's life it might land on some food that had taken ages to cook,so then i'd have to throw the food away.

use the long extension thingy from the hoover to suck them from the air. with a bit of practice i've become quite the expert!

I have a Ambi Pur in a socket.It keeps them out.
