I work as a carpenter for a general contractor. I found out today that one of the sub contracters is ripping off the mexicans that are working for him. He said he would pay them 400. a week to do framing for him. He is working them 55 to 60 hrs a week, and when it comes time to pay them he is only paying them 100. a week. They are not legal and do not speak english,so they are afraid to say anything for fear of being deported. Is there anyone I can call,or talk to on their behalf?

Yes, call Immigration and Naturalization

Hopefully that will solve the problem

If you are soliciting for some method to allow them to remain in the country illegally, then you are aiding and abetting criminal behavior. Have you no shame?

Short answer... no.

You call in the officials and the Mexicans are pretty much gone. If they want better conditions, the best thing is for them to learn the language, and study up on the citizenship exam, then actually file the papers. Then the labour laws protect them. If they're so afraid of being deported, then they need to file. And if they have some skills (which I'd hope they'd have picked up, or I'd feel sorry for the contractor's customers) it would help their applications.

But as long as they choose to work under the table and don't make the effort to get a visa and learn the language and pay taxes, they're on their own.

Unless this employer put his purported wages for them in writing, then he does not have to pay them that. In court judges will only hear cases where written or recored proof is given. Verbal documentation is not valid in a court of law. Plus, there is very little that can be done do to their citizenship status. INS will probably say that they had no business being here to begin with and the employer will face fines and possible jail time for their hiring of these undocumented persons. My husband's cousin was here on a student visa from Hungary. He worked carpentry under the table and was paid cash. After he was deported because he refused to go to school, 4-5 years later the IRS and his country discovered that he did not pay any taxes on these earned wages. He is now in debt to the US IRS for over $3,000. And they put several hundred dollars worth of interest on that every day. If the persons do not pay the IRS their country is held liable and their country usually allows the US or which other country they owe taxes to to jail these persons. All I'm saying is be careful.

Isn't the whole point of hiring illegal aliens so you can rip them off with respect to what they get paid? If people were going to pay them a fair wage, why not just hire LEGAL American citizens? Because that's the whole point, to have slave laborers.

How much you earn for a job is inversely proportional to the amount of melanin in your skin. Fact.

I know the chief of police in Pueblo, Colorado invites anyone to report it if Mexicans are being cheated, He promises to do something about it and promises to not turn them in, since it is only his job to prosecute criminals. I saw this in the Pueblo Chieftain newspaper.
Jim Billings is an honest man. Pueblo should be proud to have him as their police chief.
Call him and maybe he can direct you to someone in your own town.

They have no right to be in our country anyway, so they should shut up , do thier jobs, and pray to Jesus for everyday they don't get deported.
