Just listen to about any Carpenters or John Denver song! Here's a good one, called "When It's Gone":
Where's the word for the sadness
Where's the poetry in the pain
Where's the color in the stain where the tears have fallen
It's gone, it's just gone
Where's the method to this madness
As we create this suffering
And we do each other in and we still hold on
But it's gone, it's just gone
(*) He says it's gone
And he can't go on a living a memory
Mulling it over endlessly
Why is that so hard for me to see
He says it's gone
And he can't go on trying to live a lie
And when he cries, I know it's over
But I may never know why
There's no face in the locket
There's no place for the past
I'll put it back in my pocket
It was never meant to last
It's just gone
Repeat (*)
There's no word for the sadness
There's no poetry in the pain
There's no color in the stain where the tears have fallen
It's gone, it's just gone
It's gone, it's just gone
Well, it's gone

John Denver: Seasons of the Heart
Of course we have our differences
You shouldn't be surprised
It's as natural as changes
In the seasons and the skies
Sometimes we grow together
Sometimes we drift apart
A wiser man that I might know
The seasons of the heart
And I'm walking here beside you
In the early evening chill
A thing we've always loved to do
I know we always will
We have so much in common
So many things we share
That I can't believe my heart
When it implies that you're not there
Love is why I came here in the first place
Love is now the reason I must go
Love is all I ever hoped to find here
Love is still the only dream I know
So I don't know how to tell you
It's difficult to say
I never in my wildest dreams
Imagined it this way
But sometimes I just don't know you
There's a stranger in our home
When I'm lying right beside you
Is when I'm most alone
And I think my heart is broken
There's an emptiness inside
So many things I've longed for
Have so often been denied
Still I wouldn't try to change you
There's no one that's to blame
It's just some things that mean so much
And we just don't feel the same
Love is why I came here in the first place
Love is now the reason I must go
Love is all I ever hoped to find here
Love is still the only dream I know
True love is still the only dream I know

SAD or ROCK? Okay.. I'm now not definite on that. If by way of unhappy you imply.... sluggish and sort of emo... Evanescence has tons of those, as good as rock, corresponding to: Hello Like You My Immortal Your Star Missing All That I'm Living For Sweet Sacrifice Weight of the World Going Under The Veronicas: All I Have Heavily Broken In Another Life Someone Wake Me Up My Chemical Romance has tons of well rock songs, and so does Switchfoot.
