Seriously. People have died in wars in the past, the only difference is every single step is broadcasted during prime time television in living color this time. War is hell, war is ugly, and we were never meant to see it. I think the media should have stepped aside a long time ago and people like Geraldo Rivera should never have been allowed to stand on our front lines and broadcast live from the desert. Besides the fact that it's morbid at best, it's also putting our own soldiers in danger. It's naive to think Americans are the only ones with access to this programming.
But, that being said, the media loves to put their own spin on things. Things are distastefully edited at their leisure, with opinions instead of facts spinning a wicked web on the scene before us. When biased opinion seems to fill the everyday lives of people, some people start to take on these opinions themselves. It's called media brainwashing.

Let us also not forget the role models people look up to - the celebrities that use their star power to influence others such as Rosie O'Donnell, the Dixie Chicks and Pink. They are spoon feeding opinions via television airwaves, music, and the internet.
It's not a wonder that 70% of this nation are blind, cultish followers.
What do you think?

You have certainly nailed this one. It has been obivous to anyone with a resonable amount of skepticism that questioning what the News Networks call news is healthy. For almost 20 years now, and most likely it started during 60's, the news producers have been carefully chosing the words and images they use. If you agree with that you have to ask why? To what end?
Well first their is viewership and advertising revenue, those are a given, but at some point when University studies clearly prove a bias, you bounce back to why.
My personal belief is they view themselves as the intellectual elite and want to share their infinite wisdom with the viewers about how they should think or live their lives.
This is of course feed by people whose motives are to get people elected to congress or re-elected, so the spin goes on and on.
Please keep this in mind, should we have a Democratic congress and White House that they will implement the Fairness Doctrine, but it is they not us who decides what is not fair, which of course is the complete destruction of the First Amendment.
If you have looked at the efforts by the communists in brainwashing you will also quickly realize these effects are not easily reversed.

Seriously. There have always been reporters at the front lines of every war and since the invention of the camera, photographers. This goes back further than the written word to the cavemen drawing on the walls of caves. In the civil war it was a social gathering much like a hanging that was attended by all including children. Humans love blood and gore which is why more people watch NASCAR to see a killer wreck than a spelling bee to see who can't spell aluminum. I agree that reporting should be just that and done after the fact so as not to unintentionally give away tactics and plans of action. It is also naive to assume that commanders don't misinform reporters knowing the content of their upcoming news briefing.
News departments must make money and they can only do that by selling to people what the people want to see. If you don't like biased reporting, then don't watch FOX. They speak to the 25% of the country that supports the Bush middle east policy. The other three swing back and forth with 75% of the people.
The only people being brainwashed are the narrow minded wimps that don't think for themselves.

liberal Democrat here. Abortion is settle regulation in this usa. because of the fact i'm a male and could in no way might desire to stand the determination climate or to no longer terminate a being pregnant, I do in basic terms no longer think of i'm able to bypass judgment on others OR impose my non secular ideals on others. humorous the kind you in no way see ANY of the anti-abortion crowd down on the internal-city kin centers workplace offering to undertake and dark-skinned new child. Why is that? Euthanasia is already occurring in the back of closed doors. If somebody desires to die, they're going to stumble on a manner. Radical Islam is a situation although this is a reaction to Radical Christianity and Judaism. for each action there is an equivalent and opposite reaction. in actual actuality if the Israel-Palestinian conflict grow to be settled AND the U. S. grow to be no longer in mattress with oil-producing sheikdoms, no person could quite care approximately Islam - radical or in any different case.

I think it is wrong to say only one group of people is susceptible to media influence.
Perhaps there is a good reason people don't like what they see on the television.
I never watch television. I don't like what I read about the war.

no, it seems to me that stations like FOX news are putting their own conservative spin on things, which geraldo rivera's show is. If people want to see the grizzly nature of war than perhaps that will discourage us from fighting a war at least once a decade...Showing pictures of war does not necessarily put our troops at danger.
You call liberalism a cult but there are more liberals in this country than conservatives if the midterm elections are correct, maybe conservatism is the real cult?

Sorry to inform you but the media is not liberal, it's corporate. And, it will do anything to sway your opinion to their own self interests. Most of it is conservative. Corporations are not liberal. Anyone who has worked for one knows this. And, they will do anything to hold onto power. There is nothing liberal about MSNBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, NBC, CNN, or other television media. They are corporate owned, operated and controlled. Much of them are owned by other corporate businesses that has interest in nuclear weapons and making of military armor. This is true for GE who owns NBC and MSNBC. Do you really think they are going to criticize any war on their station when they are making so much money off the war? Come on, wake up. You're being duped.
The media did nothing to question Bush's decision to go to Iraq. They are all embedded and not really doing any reporting except what the military wants them to report. The media is supposed to be a critical voice not a voice that capitulates to power. That has never been the role of journalism is to give voice to the powerful. It's been co-opted by big business who wanted Bush to go to war. The media is more like a cult for the corporate powerful and the war profiteers.

Interesting way to put it. But although the main stream or"drive by" media are very influential in mostly giving the liberal slant on things I think the ones in Education are at least as influential as the media is. Liberalism is definitely taught more then conservatism in fact in most cases a person who believes in conservatism is hardly tolerated if at all.

no it is not. why are you so full of anger? you are spouting opinion and not fact. a big front has a big back: the conservatives are just as guilty of putting their own "spin" on things.
instead of pointing smug, self-satisfied fingers of blame at others, why not look at the actual issues? use the little grey cells and actually look at the information and the sides of the issues--because every issue has a different angle--the world is not made of absolutes.
