1. Excess nitric acid is added to solid calcium carbonate

2. a solution containing silver (I) ion (an oxidizing agent) is mixed with a solution containing iron(II) ion ( a reducing agent)

1. 2 HNO3 + CaCO3 ---> Ca(NO3)2 + CO2 + H2O

2. Ag(I) + Fe(II) ---> Ag(0) + Fe(III)

Ag+(aq) + Fe2+(aq) --> Ag(s) + Fe3+(aq)
